Maya Angelou once said,“In diversity there is beauty and there is strength.” Those words came to life during the Nations Cup portion of the IBTF World Freestyle & Rhythmic Twirl Championship on August 5, as athletes took part in the inaugural ParaTwirl Demonstration.
The International Baton Twirling Federation (IBTF) is committed to creating opportunities that are safe, inclusive, accessible, and equitable for athletes of all abilities. Through the Twirl In initiative, athletes with physical, intellectual, learning, social-emotional, and mental health challenges are encouraged to participate in the sport through movement, rhythm, music, and self-expression.

The ParaTwirl demonstration showcased the power of inclusion and the universal language of sport. The athletes took the floor with passion, determination, and joy, reminding spectators that excellence comes in many forms. Their performances highlighted how baton twirling can create opportunities for confidence, belonging, and personal achievement for athletes of all abilities.
More than a performance, the inaugural ParaTwirl demonstration was a celebration of diversity, resilience, and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in sport. As the program continues to grow, it represents an exciting step forward in building a more inclusive future for the global twirling community.
